The Grass Strings is a touring band formed in 1977 with Jim Burris, from Kannapolis NC, being the soul survivor of the original line up. His main instrument with the Strings is the mandolin but is also a very accomplished guitarist.
Dwain Thomas is the metronome for the group, also efficient on multiple instruments but enjoys keeping the beat with the bass guitar. His home is now in Locust, NC.
From Timmonsville SC, one of the finest fiddlers in the business is T. "Garrett" Abercrombie, also a multi-instrument musician for the group.
Greg Abercrombie, a seasoned musician with years of experience, also from Timmonsville SC, plays Guitar.
Rounding out the group is veteran banjoist Randy Mauldin making his home in Midland, NC.
Each member contributes to the finely tuned vocals that has become the signature feature of The Grass Strings.
The Grass Strings enjoy performing a wide variety of Bluegrass music from the driving sound some have compared to The Lonesome River Band to the haunting harmonies of the original Seldom Scene.
